Pepsodent toothpaste has been around for many years, and is the brand that many americans grew up with. It was a basic, straightforward toothpaste, nothing fancy. And it still is, but it's been brought up to date!
And best of all, it pretty much the least expensive toothpaste around.
Some years back, the makers of Pepsodent were a little slow in getting in on the fluoride thing when most of the other major brands were promoting it heavily. As a result, sales went down, and it almost died out.
But Pepsodent now has fluoride added (as 0.24% sodium fluoride), and is now about equal to any other toothpaste with regard to preventing cavities.
Here's my tip about using any fluoride toothpaste: if you want to get the maximum benefit from the fluoride - tougher tooth enamel - then you have to use the toothpaste long enough to give it a chance to work. At least 6 minutes brushing time.
ALSO, don't rinse out with water after brushing; you'll just wash the fluoride out! Instead, just spit out any excess toothpaste< froth. But don't rinse with water. The fluoride will work much better.
Fortunately this "spit but don't rinse" advice is easy to follow with Pepsodent, because it has a very mild flavour, at least the "Original Flavor" version does.
In most other respects, Pepsodent is a solid, simple product. It doesn't claim to have any fancy chemistry, or have an unusual texture or taste. It's a standard, no-nonsense paste that tastes very pleasant, without any burning sensation.
To be honest, I really like a simple product that does what it says on the can!
I was surprised how much I enjoyed using Pepsodent, as it's not a brand that I am familiar with. When I got hold of a tube to use as my review sample, I was interested to see that it's a plain white paste, with a smooth texture. So many toothpastes these days are some shade of blue!
The paste stays on the brush pretty well, and doesn't seem to dissolve away into a watery slurry the way Oral B ProExpert does. This means you probably won't have to top it up halfway through brushing.
After my usual 8 minutes of brushing, there was still plenty of paste on the brush and around my teeth. Two good spits was enough to get rid of the froth, and it left a nice taste behind, which seemed to linger for over an hour afterwards.
The best thing about Pepsodent toothpaste is the price! It is very economically priced at online stores like Amazon. Here is a link for Pepsodent Original Flavor Fluoride Toothpaste.
Pepsodent toothpaste has become a little harder to find in normal supermarkets and stores, although some drugstores have it. But it's easily found online. A good value toothpaste at a great price!
