My dental hygienist and I have looked at many electric toothbrush ratings in our 30 year careers as a dentist and a hygienist. We have found that an electric toothbrush review is not simple!
Some people prefer a simple type of electric toothbrush, with few features.
Other people like a brush with several programs. Then there's the size and weight of the whole brush, and the different sizes of the brush heads! And what about portability? If you work away from home a lot then you want a brush with either a great battery life or a small charger!
We based our votes on how well our patients can get their teeth clean!
In other words, how easy the brush is to use, and how well it cleans. There's no point in having a state-of-the-art electric toothbrush if it's difficult to use because it's heavy!
IN OUR ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH RATINGS THE WINNER IS...
The Cybersonic 3 Sonic Toothbrush from Amden Corporation.
This unusual sonic tooth brush ticks all the right boxes, but is not widely known. You can find out more about it at the sonic care toothbrush page.
AND in a close second place . . .
The Phillips Sonicare DiamondClean
The Oral B Vitality Deep Sweep.
We chose these two brushes in joint second place for very different reasons. They are at opposite ends of the cost scale. The Sonicare DiamondClean is the most expensive, usually available at something just over about $200. The Oral B Vitality is a very simple brush, at under $30.
So why choose two brushes that differ in price by over $170?
The Sonicare DiamondClean is a great brush. It is 20% smaller and lighter than the other Sonicare brushes. It takes the latest, most efficient "DiamondClean" heads (we recommend using the smallest brush head size). Simply, we think it's a great brush. We've seen a lot patients do well with this brush. If your budget allows, the Sonicare DiamondClean is the one to go for. Check out the current best price on AMAZON, HERE! .
But we also have many patients whose priorities don't allow them to spend over $100 for a toothbrush. We all have so many demands on our finances these days that sometimes a toothbrush has to take a back seat.
In this situation, we recommend the Oral-B Vitality Electric Toothbrush. . It's available for under $30.
You can read more about this brush at the Oral B Tooth Brush page.
At the price, it is just such a fantastic deal! You can get just the one power handle, and then a different brush head for each member of the family.
Now that's being efficient!
The Vitality does a great job. We have put a lot of patients with gum problems on to this brush, and I cannot recall ANYBODY saying they didn't like it.
Also, if you are new to electric toothbrushes, the Oral-B Vitality is a perfect brush to start with. It will let you "try out" the powered brush experience, without spending a lot of dollars.

An electric toothbrush review can be complicated. When it comes to electric toothbrush ratings, experience counts. Between us, my hygienist and I have over 60 years of experience in general dental practice! We hope we have made things a little clearer, based on our professional opinions!
For sure, don't feel that the Oral B Vitality is a poor substitute for the FlexCare. It is a great electric toothbrush in it's own right. It just doesn't have as many features as the FlexCare, that's all!

ONE FINAL TIP. For the DiamondClean, my recommendation would be to just use the "Clean" setting.
For both brushes, ignore the 2-minute timers! Aim for 6 to 8 minutes of gentle brushing around ALL the gum edges. Maybe use a 5-minute egg timer as a guide. I think that 2 minutes is not really long enough!
If you're looking for a new toothbrush, I recommend the Cybersonic Sonic Care toothbrush. Read my review of this brush here.
